Protect the graft and control swelling from day one.
Home essentials
- Crutches (and knee brace only if prescribed)
- Ice packs or cryotherapy for swelling control
- Clear, level paths for crutch mobility at home
- Comfortable seating with leg elevation support
Before surgery
- Confirm weight-bearing instructions for your graft type
- Complete pre-hab exercises if your surgeon or PT prescribed them
- Stock easy meals and arrange rides. Driving is limited early on.
- Clear space for crutch paths; plan time off work or school
Remember
- Increasing calf pain or swelling: notify your surgeon (blood clot concern)
- Follow your PT's brace, weight-bearing, and exercise plan exactly
