Meniscectomy: home essentials
Ice and early gentle walking are the focus.
Home essentials
- Crutches or a cane if you are limping or prescribed protected weight-bearing
- Ice packs and a plan to elevate the leg after activity
- Compression sleeve if your surgeon allows
- Slip-on shoes to avoid deep twisting while dressing
Before surgery
- Confirm you are WBAT vs any brief crutch period
- Clear clutter for safe short walks the evening of surgery if outpatient
- Stock ice and easy protein-rich meals
- Arrange a ride: Do not drive yourself home after anesthesia
Remember
- Calf pain, chest pain, or fever with wound redness: contact your team
- Meniscectomy is not meniscus repair. Confirm repair vs meniscectomy as Weight Bearing rules vary.
