Meniscus repair: home essentials
Plan for crutches and possible brace time, not a quick “scope and go.”
Home essentials
- Crutches for protected or non-weight-bearing as ordered
- Hinged brace if prescribed (know lock/unlock rules)
- Ice and elevation station near where you sit most
- Shower chair or cast/brace cover if you cannot stand safely on one leg
Before surgery
- Get your exact weight-bearing and flexion limits in writing
- Practice crutch walking and stairs with a therapist before discharge if possible
- Move bedroom items to avoid deep squatting for laundry or shoes
- Arrange help. NWB periods make kitchen and bathing harder
Remember
- Putting full weight on the leg before you are cleared can disrupt the repair
- Fever, calf pain, or wound drainage: call your surgical team
