Biceps tenodesis/tenotomy: home essentials

Short sling period and no heavy elbow flexion early.

Home essentials

  • Sling for comfort and protection as prescribed (often shorter than cuff repair)
  • Ice for portal or axillary incision discomfort
  • Easy-on clothing
  • Avoid heavy grocery bags on the surgical side

Before surgery

  • Clarify tenodesis vs tenotomy. Cosmetic “Popeye” risk differs, lifting timelines may overlap
  • Ask when active elbow flexion against resistance can begin
  • Prepare meals that do not require heavy pans week one
  • Plan sleep so you do not roll onto the surgical side

Remember

  • Sudden pop in the arm with deformity after tenodesis: call your surgeon
  • Do not start curls or pulling exercises until cleared
