Reverse shoulder replacement: home essentials

Protect the deltoid. Sling/abduction pillow rules are stricter than many expect.

Home essentials

  • Sling or abduction pillow per your reverse-TSA protocol
  • Ice and skin protection under straps
  • Recliner or wedge for sleep
  • Button shirts and pre-prepared meals for one-handed living

Before surgery

  • Learn whether you may do pendulum exercises. Reverse protocols vary
  • Ask about dislocation precautions unique to reverse implants (extension/adduction/IR combinations)
  • Practice standing from chairs without pushing through the surgical arm
  • Arrange help for the first 1–2 weeks

Remember

  • Positions that combine extension and internal rotation can risk instability in some reverse designs. Follow your sheet
  • Sudden giving-way, deformity, or inability to support the arm: urgent contact
